world food day 2010

2010 MARKS THE 65TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE FOUNDING OF THE FOOD AND AGRICULTURE ORGANIZATION OF THE UN. THIS YEAR WILL ALSO BE THE OBSERVANCE OF THE 30TH WORLD FOOD DAY AND THE FIRST YEAR OF A NEW DAY FOR WORLD FOOD DAY AS TOGETHER WE MOVE TOWARDS NEW HEIGHTS OF SERVICE AND ACTION.

Most of the organizations receiving this mailing have been sponsors of World Food Day for nearly 30 years. We are now sharing it with all World Food Day WEB readers. You have filled the past quarter of a century with the unique deeds that identify your own work and you have helped spread word of WFD to millions of individuals and diverse groups who in turn have impacted the lives of those in need around the world.

Let us make these anniversary years particularly significant through planning even more substantive events and projects. Call on all your members to match their commitment to reducing the numbers of hungry people with the number of hours of their service earmarked especially for WFD. Ten people each donating four hours of service for a designated WFD project can symbolically represent 40 fewer hungry people, and more important, ease pain and save lives. FAO will be organizing another approach called the 1billionhungry project. See enclosed.

Everyone can build on WFD’S shared history. Sponsors or groups working together can promote a special WFD project. Like building a giant jigsaw puzzle, ideas such as awards, IT research competitions, infant and child services, community food security seminars, public policy campaigns, student service projects, international internships, neighborhood gardens, documentaries, mentoring programs, college global issue courses, food industry observances, K-12 nutrition wellness courses, “go green” civic markers, joint support of an organizational or community WORLD FOOD DAY Coordinator can all fit together on OCTOBER 16th . . . . helping form a majestic global mosaic of a just, sustainable, hunger-free world!

REMEMBER . . . WORKING TOGETHER WORKS!!!
